On 24 August, 2019 VIRAC leading researcher Artūrs Vrubļevskis attended observatory "Lielzeltiņi" open door event with a popular-science guest lecture "Events on the Sun. Their impact on Earth and research in Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre". In the guest lecture the researcher gave a general overview of the Sun's activity and impact on Earth, as well as introduced the listeners to the research carried out by VIRAC Solar Research Group, at the end answering the listeners' various questions.
Observatory "Lielzeltiņi" is an astronomy amateur observatory in Talsi region. It is run by astronomy enthusiast Sergejs Klimanskis and the open door event happens annually. This year, in addition to the guest lecture, the programme included a visit to an exhibition of paintings related to astronomy, musical performances, a quiz and, of course, observations of celestial objects in the observatory's telescopes.
Artūrs Vrubļevskis receives funding within the framework of ERAF project No.1.1.1.2/16/1/001 "Post-doctoral Research Aid Programme" postdoctoral grant No.1.1.1.2/VIAA/I/16/079 "Structure for the Solar Magnetic Atmosphere (USMA).
