VIRAC employees get a prize for the best picture

sept. 13, 2016

From 5th – 9th September, in the framework of the “Building on Advanced Lofar Technology for Innovation, Collaboration and Sustainability” (BALTICS) project, six employees of the VIRAC participated in the “Fourth LOFAR Data Processing School”, held at the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy ASTRON.

The aim of this school is to introduce new members to the LOFAR system and its various aspects, from the base station’s technical equipment to the software steps and their scientific results. In practical classes, VIRAC employees had the opportunity to gain experience in the processing of observations of LOFAR telescopes by performing data processing steps on a daily basis, thus moving closer to the scientific result, which is the image of radio astronomical signal sources.

At the last day, authors of the best pictures were rewarded. An unexpected and pleasant surprise – VIRAC employees Evita Vaviļina and Gatis Gaigals won the prize for the best picture.
