Approved funding for VUAS and VHTP submitted project

On March 6, 2018, the third evaluation process of the European Space Agency (ESA) projects was completed. As a result 14 new projects will be implemented in the amount of EUR 1,413,520. All approved projects will be 100 % funded by Latvian contributions to the ESA’s budget. Ventspils University of Applied Science’s (VUAS) Engineering Reasearch Institution “Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre” (VIRAC) has reaffirmed its high scientific excellence by participating in two approved projects.


In the project “Space Challenge: Interactive Teaching Tool” Ventspils High Technology park (VHTP) and limited liability company “Aspired” add ESA’s highly valued innovative capability to teach IT students the essential content of the space and space industry with new and creative teaching approaches in the multimedia environment.

The aim of the program is to strengthen and support the use of technologies related to the space industry, the development of science and business activities until 2019, so that after 2019 Latvia can join the ESA Convention as a full member of the ESA.

The project’s objective is to teach students the basics of space and space industry while keeping entertained using gamification and technologies


Activities:

  1. Development of correct scientific content about basics of space and space industry, which will be included into the application using text and multimedia
  2. Development of application for space education using tablets that will include different tasks and goals, to make learning about space and space industry fun, comprehensible and motivational
  3. Deployment and implementation of the application, including at least 2000 student education using innovative game-based tool, so that as many students as possible would be educated in basics of space and space industry
